Gestures within Human-Technology Choreographies for Interaction Design
2013
In the traditional use-oriented approach, only a fraction of gestures are taken as relevant to interaction. In this paper we argue that gestures should not be handled only as isolated objects of application use, but they should rather be understood as dynamic moments of embodied presence belonging to an experiential chain of different movements which has its own significance as a whole. In the current study, we call the embodied, experiential continuum of human action choreography. We assume that choreography is a fruitful theoretical concept in understanding interaction design because by choreography we can understand gestures as building up a chain of a bigger whole. The dynamic formulati…
Three-dimensional bimetallic octacyanidometalates $[M^{IV}{(\mu-CN)_{4}Mn^{II}(H_{2}O)_2}_2 \cdot 4H_{2}O]_{n}$ (M=Nb,Mo,W) : synthesis, single-cryst…
2008
Abstract We report the synthesis, the single-crystal X-ray crystallographic structures and the magnetic properties of three new isostructural cyanido-bridged networks: [M IV {(μ-CN) 4 Mn II (H 2 O) 2 } 2 ·4H 2 O] n [M IV = Nb IV ( 1 ), Mo IV ( 2 ), W IV ( 3 )]. For compound 1 , the magnetic properties reveal a ferrimagnetic phase below 50 K. In contrast, compounds 2 and 3 show a paramagnetic behaviour with no magnetic ordering down to 2 K. The only electronic difference between the two kinds of compounds is the presence of two paired electrons on Mo IV ( 2 ) and W IV ( 3 ) (d 2 electronic configuration, S = 0) with no possible exchange interactions with Mn II ions (d 5 electronic configur…
The Use of Question Modification Strategies to Differentiate Instruction in Eritrean Mathematics and Science Classrooms
2023
This qualitative study aimed at examining the question modification strategies Eritrean elementary and middle school teachers used to differentiate their instruction and meet the diversity in the classroom as well as the functions these strategies served in classroom interactions. The research data consisted of videotaped recordings (N = 11 videotaped lessons) of classroom interactions in eight mathematics and science classrooms, which were analysed through interaction analysis. The findings showed that Eritrean teachers utilised the following five question modification strategies either independently or in combination: repetition; rephrasing; clarification; decomposition; and code-switchin…
Intraguild interactions between two egg parasitoids of a true bug in semi-field and field conditions.
2014
International audience; Research on interspecific competitive interactions among insect parasitoids has often been characterized by laboratory studies in which host insects are exposed to female parasitoids of different species in various sequences and combinations. In the last years, an increasing number of studies have investigated interspecific interactions under field and semi-field conditions although just a few number of works focused on egg parasitoids. In this work, we undertook a two-year study to investigate interspecific interactions between Trissolcus basalis (Wollaston) (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) and Ooencyrtus telenomicida (Vassiliev) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae), two egg para…
Evaluation eines neuen Softwareassistenten zur automatischen Volumenbestimmung von intrahepatischen Tumoren
2004
Purpose: Computed tomography has become the preferred method in detecting liver carcinomas. The introduction of spiral CT added volumetric assessment of intrahepatic tumors, which was unattainable in the clinical routine with incremental CT due to complex planimetric revisions and excessive computing time. In an ongoing clinical study, a new software tool was tested for the automatic detection of tumor volume and the time needed for this procedure. Materials and Methods: We analyzed patients suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). All patients underwent treatment with repeated transcatheter chemoembolization of the hepatic arteria. The volumes of the HCC lesions detected in CT were m…
α-secretase mediated conversion of the amyloid precursor protein derived membrane stub C99 to C83 limits Aβ generation
2009
The Swedish mutation within the amyloid precursor protein (APP) causes early-onset Alzheimer's disease due to increased cleavage of APP by BACE1. While beta-secretase shedding of Swedish APP (APPswe) largely results from an activity localized in the late secretory pathway, cleavage of wild-type APP occurs mainly in endocytic compartments. However, we show that liberation of Abeta from APPswe is still dependent on functional internalization from the cell surface. Inspite the unchanged overall beta-secretase cleaved soluble APP released from APP(swe) secretion, mutations of the APPswe internalization motif strongly reduced C99 levels and substantially decreased Abeta secretion. We point out t…
From experiencing sites of past to the future of the Demolition Man and how graffiti fits to all
2019
This paper explores the possibilities graffiti can provide to research user experience, focusing in those that might emerge in urban environments. The concept of User Experience (UX) can be seen as a consciously experienced phenomenon entailing for example biological, psychological and cultural, spatial and temporal aspects. Graffiti can be used as a tool to study experiences and meanings in physical and social places and practices. This can be done by studying direct experiences while completing a task, but also for example by narratives and memories involving graffiti. As the technology develops, it is incorporated in our lives, becoming more adaptive and virtual. This might have a strong…
Les modalités iconiques dans le discours médié par ordinateur: du neuf dans l'interaction?
2018
Graphic modalities (emoticons, emoji, GIF…) are often presented as one of the distinctive features of computer-mediated interaction. In what may be the first reference book on computer-mediated communication (also known as CMC), American linguist Susan C. Herring goes as far as calling them a “unique feature” of digital interaction (Herring 1996, 3). Since then, many linguists have tempered this view and shown that graphic modalities are by no means specific to CMC. However, they remain one of its salient features. Are they, then, to be considered as an evolution or a revolution in interaction? The real question is indeed what they bring to computer-mediated communication, and their status …
Bacheliers, étudiants et jeunes diplômés : quels systèmes migratoires régionaux ?
2006
Since French Society enters the so-called “Economy of knowledge”, migrations of young people, especially these concerning higher education graduates, are of most interests. Despite the fact that it could help to understand relations between University and work market and ways regions can evolve, the study of migrations of young people was not yet done. A set of results highlights first the main role of French capital region. It shows also main similarities and differencies of migratories' behavior.
